  1. Mark Paleologo wet
    .
    i was in
    up to my knees
    before realizing
    i was wet
    she was
    blanket
    in the sun
    cherry coke sweet
    waving answers
    to questions
    i had left
    in a car
    that burned
    on my way home
    i stood
    sand covered
    shivering she said
    look at you
    come here
    wrapping me
    warming me
    considering me
    un-singed and dry
    touches tingle
    while
    flesh knits
    as wounds close
    and her lips
    find my cheek
    willing
    waiting
    wanting
    kisses
    that make one
    forget
    everything else

  2. Lana Joseph Mother Earth
    “By LJ”

Mother Earth cries tears of pain
as she oversees nature’s beauty treated with disdain
she whispers gently into the wind…
trying to calm earth’s surface… roots and trees
her words are voiceless to human beings..
    but to the birds…
    the fish…
    all plant life…
    above and beneath the sea
    and to all other animals…
    except you and me…
    she speaks
    and they all hear…

    Perhaps naked shadows also listen?

Will those who continue to be the spoils of nature…
continue blowing horrors against God’s will?

    Tears of disappointment…
because man Incessantly destroy earth’s beautiful precious land
What will be left when all has perished?
    No more food…
because plant life will be gone…
    foul and fish poisoned…
    extinction of all animals…

    You…
    Hu~mans
    Man~kind…
will have a pocket full of money
but your lack of concern for earth…
    will give No…
    New Birth

    Then…
will you understand that your Money$$$ is worthless?
    Because…
there will be no more food to eat?

    Why can’t we love
    Without all the complications
    Why when i say that
    I love you
    Do I really mean that
    You are never supposed to
    Ever
    Have sex with
    Anyone
    Ever again
Why does this always lead to
    The inevitible heartbreak
But yet I want to be loved unconditionally
    With conditions of my own…….

    ‘THRESHOLD TO FREEDOM’

IT WAS COLD AND SHE WAS TIRED, DRAINED OF STRENGTH
BUT SHE KNEW THEY’D GO TO ANY LENGTH
IT WAS NOW OR NEVER TO GET AWAY
IF SHE WANTED TO LIVE TO SEE ANOTHER DAY

SHE CREPT SLOWLY IN STAGES, LISTENING
FEARFUL, SHE FELT THE SWEAT GLISTENING
    SHE UNLATCHED THE DOOR SLOWLY
    HAND SHAKING DROPPED THE KEY

SHE FROZE IN THE PITCH DARK
IN THE DISTANCE HEARD A DOG BARK
    INSTINCTIVELY COWERED, HEAD UNDER ARM
SEEMED FOR EVER BEFORE LOOKING UP AGAIN

SLOWLY SHE PATTED HER PALM ON THE GROUND
BREATHED A SILENT SIGH WHEN THE KEY WAS FOUND
PLACED HER SYMBOL OF FREEDOM IN THE LOCK
HEART BEATING LOUD AS A TICKING CLOCK

PUSHED DOWN THE HANDLE QUIET AS A MOUSE
PRAYED SHE’D NEVER AGAIN ENTER THIS HOUSE
AS IT OPENED THE DOOR CREAKED LOUDLY IN THE NIGHT
SOMETHING, PERHAPS A MOUSE SCUTTLED AWAY IN FRIGHT

IN HER RUSH TO CROSS THE THRESHOLD TO FREEDOM SHE STUMBLED
    ADRENALINE PUMPING, NERVOUSLY SHE GIGGLED
FEAR AND EXCITEMENT ROLLED INTO A SINGLE EMOTION
SO LONG A VICTIM OF OPPRESSION

SHE HALF FELL, HALF CRAWLED OVER THE THRESHOLD
AND IN THAT MOMENT SHE FELT BRAVE AND BOLD
STRAIGHTENED UP HER BRUISED AND BROKEN BODY
AND SHOOK OFF THE INVISIBLE CHAINS OF SLAVERY

RENEWED ENERGY SHE FLED INTO THE NIGHT AIR
GUIDED BY THE STARS, WIND IN HER HAIR
SHE RAN UNTIL SHE REACHED A PLACE OF SAFETY
AND WEPT TEARS OF JOY KNOWING SHE WAS FREE

“I wrote the above poem as a reminder of ‘modern day’ slavery and human trafficking that exists today.”

  5. Katie Rendon – Mustang

You my eternal love, were a stallion
A wild mustang, with a spirit so free
And perhaps that’s how my heart was won
The way you loved so openly

The journeys that you took me on
Were among the best I’ve ever know
You would roam across seemingly endless lawn
Where for me, obstacles were always shown

But your sights were set on the infinite anew
Throwing the idea of settling to the wind
The only thing about you I could be certain was true
Was that you would always leave me at the bend

A fork that you must travel alone
And I would be left there at a loss
Until the road leading back was shown
But I knew you’d find that cross

Then, momentarily, you would be tame
Content by the comfort of my hands
As I would release myself the same
From a life with limits and demands

    So within those precious moments
We would free each other entirely
And our love made perfect sense
But a mustang will always run free

    FREE VERSES

    Free flowing verses
    Blasting in my mind
    Are causing tremors
    And tsunamis
    Making my soul quiver
    And shiver
    Where is Noah
We might be needing an ark
    In place of Titanic
    As my heart
    Becomes torn and worn out
    Caught between verses,
    Songs of Solomon
    And ghetto verses
    That spins and twists
    My thoughts
    Making me i lost spirit
    With mental hernia!
