10th September 2011 – Dolly Martino, USA
I received your book, The April Write, from Goodreads giveaways and posted the following review on that site: I received this book for free through Goodreads giveaways and I thought it would be a good opportunity to read some poetry and learn more about the annual event called the April Write Challenge. There are three years (2008-2010) worth of poems by the author (and occasionally a collaboration with Donna Parkinson.) With a poem to mark each day of the month of April, the tone of the poems shifts markedly from 2009 to 2010. The first two years of poems are mainly light, rhyming ditties that encourage the various participants to create a poem based on the day’s topic. The poems from April 2010 are very much darker, sensual and personal entries, poems that are less about the other participants and more about the author or about a character the author invents. It’s a dramatic change, but I also feel that the author has grown into her writing style and felt more free to branch out in to edgier topics. Overall, it was an interesting read and I will certainly check out her websites (www.aprilwrite.com and http://www.poetryforschools.com) best wishes, Dolly Martino”
